Around the 14th century, Arabs used trading routes to East Africa to carry out their trading business. Now, these journeys were never focused on wildlife viewing but still, they gave these journeys the name ‘safaris’ as it translates to journey or travel. Pippa Middletown, the younger sister to Catherine Duchess of Cambridge visited Kenya and took part in a 42 km marathon. This run was dedicated to raising funds for supporting wildlife conservation.

Kenya has been the leading safari destination in the world since 2015 at World Travel Awards.  Kenya won this prestigious award after beating some premiere destinations like Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia.

In order to protect its national parks and wildlife reserves against hunting, Kenya’s government published a legal notice to ban all forms of hunting in 1977. After that, hunting was a punishable offence and involves paying a fine or jail time.

Kenya is home to about 25 national parks and 18 renowned national reserves. The national reserves support a huge concentration of wildlife and visitors also get the opportunity to see the Big Five of Africa. Kenya has also got 6 marine reserves. The marine reserves offer great water activities such as snorkelling, windsurfing and skiing.
